The rising Filipino classical-pop tenor quartet, The Angelos, dubbed by local media as Asia’s answer to world famous Il Divo, is composed of young, vibrant and good-looking artists: George Sison-Tagle, its founder, Miguel Aguila, Rei Paolo Libiran and John Louie Abaigar. The Angelos won the Aliw Awards’ Best Group in Concert category in 2009.
The Angelos have a broad and extensive repertoire, and sing in English, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin(Chinese) and Filipino(Tagalog & other dialect). They have been travelling and performing all over the world with their own interpretations of classical, romantic, pop songs and Filipino classics. Mr. Enrique Trevino, who for many years has been a teacher of voice and recording studio coach in Texas, has gushed: “The Angelos possess a unique blend of musical artistry rarely seen in a musical group. The colorful and vibrant diversity of four individual voices combine to bring about the expressive import of music with poetic and yet highly artistic finesse.”
The group had successful performances overseas in the past three years including the 80th birthday concert for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter in Atlanta, Georgia, concert with world- renowned pianist David Osborne, concerts in the River Rock Show Theater in Vancouver, Canada (only three Filipino artists have performed in this venue – Jose Mari Chan, Lea Salonga and The Angelos), and front act for Stephen Bishop at the Intramuros in South San Francisco.
They continue their international musical and cultural missions by promoting Filipino talent and sharing the Filipino culture with various foreign communities in the United States such as Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Las Vegas, New York , New Jersey, Phoenix and Texas (Dallas, Houston, McAllen, Corpus Christi, Donna, Edinburg), and Vancouver,Victoria Canada.
In Asia, The Angelos were invited to perform at Sands Convention Center in Singapore with 3,000 audiences, Dinner-Concert at Resort World Genting in Malaysia, for VIPs and company’s Christmas Eve party 2010, and were invited thrice in Hong Kong at the Dragon Centre, Eton Properties and Hong Kong Charter House.
Last May 6, they were once again invited to perform before members of the Macau Pensioners Association (APOMAC) during their anniversary celebration and gala dinner held at the conventional center at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. Their repertoire which wowed the estimated audience of 1,500 people included Regrese a Mi(unbreak my heart),Volare, Amigos Para Simpre, Music of the Night, Impossible Dream, This is the moment, Love changes everything, I Believe in You, Senza Catene, Nessun Dorma and Conte Partiro (Time to Say Goodbye).
At home, The Angelos had the privilege of being the front act of The Lettermen, Cascade, and Petula Clark concerts held at the Manila Hotel. Honored to had concerts backed-up by 60-piece orchestra of MMCO (Metro Manila Community Orchestra), conducted by Maestro Chino Toledo held at the Lyceum University, Bellevue Hotel in Alabang and NBC Tent, and also had concerts with Manila Symphony Orchestra & conducted by Maestro Jeffrey Solares. In 3 years, The group had four successful concerts at Teatrino and three times at the Music Museum in Greenhills, and are always invited by top corporations for their gala events.
They have also accepted invitations to guest on TV such as Unang Hirit, Kuya Germ’s Walang Tulugan, SOP Sunday musicals, Umaganga Kay Ganda, ANC Mornings, One Morning show, Music Uplate, as well as “Balitang America” with host Gel Santos-Relos and one local Spanish TV show while touring the US.
The group’s manager, Ms. Charo Garcia-Yu, is proud of The Angelos and as a way of thanking their supporters and sharing what they have achieved so far, they have performed to various SM malls and promoted their Christmas album entitled It’s Christmas Eve (composed by one of the Angelos member: John Louie Abaigar) - Mall of Asia, Megamall, The Block SM North Edsa, Fairview, Sta. Rosa, Rosario, Cavite, Dasmarinas, The Podium, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Calamba, Clark, and other malls like Robinsons , Greenbelt 3 Ayala mall, as well as school campus tours.
Recently, The Angelos was awarded the SM Global Pinoy Excellence Award and recognized as Philippines’ Young Ambassador of Music by the National Commission on Culture & Arts(NCCA) during the leadership of Ms. Cecille Guidote-Alvarez.
