The Angelos Have Arrived
By Attorney Ignacio Pérez

What would you call a musical soiree that offered rousing renditions of classical themes such as Nessum Dorma and Nella Fantasia, followed by inspiring interpretations of Warrior is a Child, You Raise Me Up, and When You Believe, then vigorous versions of Por Ti Sere and Solo Otra Vez, culminating in a second-to-none, foot-stomping tribute to Michael Jackson, moon-walk and all? How about calling it FANTASTIC, or A SHOW YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS? It also happens to be the definition of a concert featuring THE ANGELOS -- an up-and-coming, all-male classical-pop group of young tenors from the Philippines, in the middle of their South Texas tour.

Classical music is meeting contemporary pop right here in the Rio Grande Valley. You just don’t want to pass on this opportunity. Many in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Houston who did not make it to one of The Angelos’ shows during their present tour of the United States are regretting they were busy doing something else.

The Angelos are touring North America this August and September, immediately after numerous performances in the Philippines and Hong Kong. In addition to appearances in California, Las Vegas, and the cities of Richmond and Victoria in Canada, they scheduled concerts here in Texas, where they have been acclaimed by audiences at the historic Cine El Rey in McAllen’s thriving new Entertainment District, the Sauceda Auditorium in Donna, as well as for more intimate gatherings at the Milano’s and Little Italy restaurants in Weslaco and at various private parties and festivities.

So, you haven’t heard of The Angelos yet? Maybe that’s because they’ve been around for less than two years – but they’ve made great strides in that short period of time. Many say they’re rivaling the well-known Il Divo group. The classical-pop quartet is composed of George Sison-Tagle, its founder, John Louie Abaigar, Rei Paolo Libiran and Miguel Aguila, the latter a 14 year old with a trained, powerful voice. They were first introduced to the public on September 13, 2007 at a concert dubbed "Salute to George!" which was held at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Manila. The Angelos have a broad and extensive repertoire, and sing in English, Spanish, Italian, Latin and Tagalog. Their website may be accessed at

Their next show in McAllen will be on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Christian Fellowship Center, 2201 Trenton Road (near 23rd Street). Part of the proceeds will help local Filipino community charities and organizations. If you can’t make that show, you’ll need to travel to Corpus Christi to catch them the next day, or plan to be in the Metroplex region on September 5, 2009, where they’re performing in Richardson.

Mr. Enrique Trevino, who for many years has been a teacher of voice and recording studio coach, has gushed: “The Angelos possess a unique blend of musical artistry rarely seen in a musical group. The colorful and vibrant diversity of four individual voices combine to bring about the expressive import of music with poetic and yet highly artistic finesse. George Tagle sings with profound volume and exactness of pitch with highly seasoned and sensitive romantic artistic expression. Louie Abaigar is the emotive heart and soul of the group. His lyrical phrasing is filled with intense passion and expression. Paolo Libiran's high tenor voice penetrates like a ray of light illuminating from a crystal chandelier. The brilliance and purity of his expressive voice can also be likened to a fine wine that cannot be described with words, but only felt and tasted by the listener. Miguel Aguila, the youngest […] has vocal, musical, artistic maturity and refinement […].”
