Electrifying Angelos Concert At MERALCO
The skies cleared up in Metro Manila after days of torrential rains for the benefit concert of The ANGELOS at the Meralco Theater, August 18.
After successful concert tours in the United States and Canada, world-class Filipino artists, The ANGELOS, a classical-pop tenor group composed of George Sison-Tagle, Louie Abaigar and Paolo Libiran, staged an awesome musical presentation of exceptional talents and style, entitled “Prism of Harmony”.
The concert is for the benefit of Carol Foundation, Inc. Eye Center, in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), which gives FREE cataract operation to indigent patients, and Balikatan Sa Kaunlaran (BSK) National Foundation which provides livelihood training program to housewives and out-of-school youth.
Front act talents are the product of Angelos’ founder, George Tagle’s passion for teaching voice lessons and for sharing his enormous talents, especially to the youth. Smart Kids and Teen Stage Works song and dance numbers were inspired by popular TV series – The High School Musical and Glee. They had performed with The Angelos and Ms. Beverly Salviejo last summer at Teatrino.
Another group was introduced composed of young men and women known as “PSYCHEDELIC”, serenaded the audience with the sounds of the 70’s and 80’s with their own interpretation of “I’ll Be There” and medley of songs by Earth, Wind and Fire.
The much-awaited performance of The ANGELOS opened with the dramatic rendition of “Remember Me” (Troy movie theme song), with young and graceful ballet scholars of Sayaw Foundation on the background. The ANGELOS continue to capture the hearts and minds of the audience with their powerful rendition of “Impossible Dream”, “This is the Moment”, I will always love you”, and “Gold”. A special number “The Prayer” with Ms. Irene Alano Rhodes (London’s Broadway artist from Ms Saigon) mesmerized the crowd. With world-class violinist, Merjohn Legaya, the group left the concert hall with truly a memorable and great musical experience!
They also performed solo numbers showcasing their passion in the other genre of music: Paolo Libiran accompanied himself on the piano with pop song “Apologize” and amazed the crowd with hip-hop dance number of Michael Jackson medley. Louie Abaigar, rock star of the group, usually belts “You Give Love a Bad Name”. A prolific and soulful songwriter/composer, Louie shared his own composition on the piano, “The Calling” for the movie of the Canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod. George Tagle wowed the audience with one of his most requested songs – “Music of the Night”.
Guest artist, Mr. Alfred Lee from Texas, USA, an internationally known musician touched by our Lord shared his music ministry together with Soprano singer, Ms. Edith McCoy.
To cap this grand musical event, the whole cast rendered a special OPM song “Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika” by Mr. Ryan Cayabyab – a fitting tribute to world-class Filipino musical talents performing in perfect harmony with internationally acclaimed artists!
Applause ensued and standing ovation from sponsors, friends and guests led by Hon. Mayor Guia Gomez of San Juan City.
Executive producer, Ms. Charo Garcia-Yu, was “hands-on” during the night, seeing to it that everything was going on smoothly. Would you believe that Ms. Yu’s son Charleton directed this exceptional musical presentation? Ton-Ton’s first directorial job! Take a bow . . . .
